Date fields: Date Input / Date Output

Control how EMu formats dates when they are input into date fields and how dates will display when they are output (retrieved from a database):

Specify the format for dates entered into fields that have a Date data type.

format

a series of special characters recognized by the System as format characters:

Description

yy

Year - displayed with two digits, e.g. 2002 will display as 02.

yyyy

Year - displayed with four digits, e.g. 2002 will display as 2002; if year is BC it will print with a preceding negative symbol, e.g. 500 BC will display as -500.

Y

Year - displayed with four digits, e.g. 2002 will display as 2002.

M

Month - values range from 1-12.

MM

Month - two digit values range from 01-12.

MMM

Month - the first three letters of the month are displayed, e.g. Jan, Feb, etc.

MMMM

Month - the entire word is displayed, e.g. January, February, etc.

d

Day - values range from 1-31.

dd

Day - two digit values range from 01-31.

ddd

Day - the first three letters of the weekday are displayed, e.g. Mon, Tue, etc.

dddd

Day - the entire day of week is displayed, e.g. Monday, Tuesday, etc.

e

Era - if the date is BC, BC will be displayed. If the date is AD, nothing will be displayed.

E

Era - either BC or AD will be displayed.

Note: The format characters can be combined to create the desired date string, separated by any other character(s).

This setting will generate a date format applicable to the United States (e.g. 07/15/2006):
